Mike and the Great Panty Caper…
By Chuck Dishno
February 2013

In the fall of 1976, my wife and kids, Lura and Michael belonged to a small group of square dancers. Several of us had small travel trailers and would use them to go camping on weekends.

There were lots of campgrounds near Fresno where we lived so a long weekend made for a nice trip. On these trips we usually had 6 to 8 trailers and lots of food. We would circle our trailers at the campground if space permitted and build a fire in the center. We were a great group and had much fun.

On one particular outing we traveled to the top of Tioga Pass. The pass is at 9500 feet elevation and is on the border of California and Nevada. It is located inside Yosemite National Park.

Two of the campers were Roy and Irene and their two children, Randall and Christine who we called Christie. Christie was about 3 years old and my son Mike was a couple of years older. They had great times playing and seemed to always be together.

One evening as we were sitting around the campfire telling whoppers, Christie trudged up the path to the outhouse. After she had been in there a quite a while she started calling for Micahel. Mike got up, put his hands-on his hips and went up the trail to see what she wanted. When he got to the edifice on the path he called to her and asked what she wanted. She said to come in so Mike being the perfect gentleman he was, opened the door and went inside. We were all watching this scenario and were waiting to see what would happen next.

A few minutes went by when the door opened, they came out holding hands and skipping down the path back to camp. When they got there I asked Mike what Christie wanted. He just shrugged his shoulders and said. “Oh nothing much, she just couldn’t get her panties pulled up so I had to help.” He was her hero and that was that.

Over the years, I have kidded Mike about the first time he pulled a girl’s panties up and now for the rest of his life he will be focusing on pulling them down.

Mike has been married to the same girl for about 30 years now and has two kids of his own. I don’t know what happened to Christie but if she ever reads this, I hope she won’t be too embarrassed.
