Where are the clowns

Entertainers of Yore

I saw a short movie
Named “Where are the clowns”
I hurriedly tried to write
All their names down

On my memo pad
While remembering their routines
Some heard on my radio before T.V.
When I was in my pre-teens

How the family
Would huddle around that old radio
Roar with laughter
At the “Amos and Andy” show

Then in 1950
El Dorado got T.V.
Then my new wife Shirley and I
Could actually see

Some of those clowns
In our living room
While in an easy chair
Eating pop-corn

The programs of today
Cannot compare
With those fantastic clowns
Of yesteryear

As I read the names on the list
Of yesterdays clowns on T.V.
I’m happy I lived through the era
And was able to see

These famous clowns on my
19 inch screen
And be able to recall
Some of those fabulous routines.
