Gettin Older Aint No fun

Getting Older
Aint no fun
I wish I knew what it meant
When I was a youngun

How I hated
Plantin taters
Hauling water
For the tomaters

Hoed weeds
From between the rows
Careful not to chop
Off my bare toes

Gnats flying around
Your face
Mosquitos
Everyplace

Chiggers all round your ankles
Itchin is unbearable
Scrached and scratched
Sumpin terrible.

Down to the
Old swimming Hole
Body covered with water
To get the ichen under control.

Id trade these eighty years
Of so called retirement ease
In that itchy garden
Please, Please, Please

Id feel as if I were in Heaven
Nary a gripe from me
Id be as happy
As any youngster could be

Those insects wouldnt bother me
Not the Poison Ivy or Poison Oak
Id pass off the chiggers
I think of them as a joke

Id go back in a heartbeat
With my dog called Spot
Just to be hoein weeds
In that old garden plot.
