The Little dock that Wuz

The Little Dock That “Wuz”

This picture of this run down dock
Brings back memories of years ago
When I used to dangle my feet in the water
While fishin, doncha know

A can of worms
Maybe a grasshopper or two
With my old cane pole
Minus shirt and shoe

I could sit for hours
Deep in thought
While waiting for a fish
To be caught

The ever presence
Of mosquitoes
Landing on my back
Even on my toes

Kept me busy
Swatting away
Trying to keep
Those bugs at bay.

I could make up
All kinds of stories
Of what I would like to be
And the “gallant warrior” was always me

I’ve played Army Generals
Navy Admirals two
A gold prospector
And a Pistol Packer too.

I would watch that bobber
Hours at a time
Hoping for the “big” one
To hook upon my line

Never got the “Big One”
In all those early times
Sittin on that dock
With my cane pole, hook and line

It upsets me to see
That old dock in such bad shape
From my childish troubles
This was my great escape

Those rotting timbers
Standing above the water line
Is all that’s left
Of those memories I left behind.
