Hungry and Homeless

Hungry and Homeless

While leaving
The local café
Out on north main

I was approached
As I was heading home
By a 45 year old woman
Walking all alone

She asked me for a buck
To get something to eat today
I said I would buy her a lunch
We walked back into the café

I ordered a Hamburger for her
Paid for it and have to agree
But for the “Grace of God”
That person could have been me

This female person
Dressed in well worn clothes
Skin all bronzed from sun
Homeless, doncha know

I left
Feeling much better about me
Hunger in this day and age
Should not be.

You say she tricked me
This was just a con
And I am the loser
She won

As I set before this computer
Typing this short verse
If I had said no to her
I would have felt much worse

If she was conning me
And this was just a “Song and Dance”
I’m glad what I did
Glad I took a chance

So to all you skeptics
I’m telling you
My conscience tells me
It was the thing to do
