The shady side of the street

The shady side of the street

Shady Side of the Street

In the southern part of Seoul
Was an upscale market street
Bin Bag Wan was its name
Dozens of places to shop and eat

No air conditioning
So in the Noon time heat
Shopping was done on
The shady side of the street.

The shoppers, women and men
Wore clothes of black and white and tan
No colored blouses or skirts
Maybe the bright colors were banned

Inside the stores
Was a funny smell
A dusty, rusty, musty aroma
Of cotton goods ready to sell

After your shopping day was through
You were ready to feast on
Some of that good Ox stew
At the local café on the Bin Bag Wan

So grab your chop sticks one and all
Into the café, grab a seat
Get a table next to the wall
And enjoy a plate of Ox stew meat.

Finally I overcame my fear
While sitting near
An open window where the flies
Swarmed before my eyes

When I got my bowl of Ox stew meat
The flies decided to eat
My Ox stew meat
I got to my feet

And beat a hasty retreat
Away from Bin Bag Wan Street
