Death was not a flavour
held for long in the
minds of ten year olds
only a word which meant
Danny would no longer
be sharing car spaces
thumbing any ride
to the bridge out of town
where hungry perch nibbled
worms our hooks were
adorned with. A car
passed over that young boy
and we ran from the memory
of that day leaving him as
we returned home with
the catch of the day.
