Where is the Zyder Zee

I think I will never see
That mystical Zyder Zee
This always intrigued me
While in Chelsea school studying History

Iíd been to Wichita and El Dorado
Iíd traveled to Leon and Cassoday
Iíd waded in the Little Walnut River
Eaten lunch under a Hackberry Tree

But it was still a mystery to me
This strange place in my book of History
Just give me the ability
To walk on the beach of the Zyder Zee

Iíve been to Oklahoma and Missouri
Visiting my cousin Betty
Learned to ride her bike you see
Been to Fairview and Alva, but not the Zyder Zee

In 1944 I became a draftee
Sent to Texas as a trainee
Ended up in the Infantry, 4th platoon of Company B
Doing my bit to Keep my country free

Sent to Alabama and Oregon more training for me
Put on a troopship and sent out on the sea
On to Pearl Harbor, Eniwetok, Okinawa, day 23
Still lookin for the shores of the Zyder Zee

On to Korea
On an LST
Just Mac and me
Seoul, Koreaís capital city
Where is the Zyder Zee?

Been to Tokyo, Osaka, Tachikawa Japan, flew free
In 1945 sent back to the Kansas Prairie
After going on this grand spree
Still havenít visited the Zyder Zee

I think youíll have to agree with me
I donít even see the possibility
Of being able to see
That illusive Zyder Zee.
